Sambhar or Sambar is a vegetable and lentil based stew with broath, almost always consumed every day in South India. Sambhar is stapled with the traditional South Indian dishes like Dosa, Idli and Uttapam. This 100gm Gits Sambar Mix is enough for 8 serves of Sambhar. For the authentic South Indian flavour, boil the Gits Sambar Mix with tomatoes, roasted shallots, drum sticks and season the prepared Sambhar with mustard seeds and curry leaves. For chilli enthusiasts, separately roast dry red chilli and add it whole while preparation.
This tangy and savoury dish dates it’s origin to the 17th century, it was accidentally prepared in the kingdom of Maratha ruler Sambhaji. He tried to prepare dal in the absence of his chef and added tamarind for a tangy taste. The dish later came to be known as sambar. Sambar originated in Karnataka and is a very popular dish in South India and Sri Lanka.
